While delving into politics, the journal also published American literature, historical essays, etc. This volume contains three stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne, all of which presumably appeared in Twice Told Tales; work by John Greenleaf Whittier; pieces on the life of Aaron Burr; an account of a voyage on the Nile River; an account of American whale ships captured by Chile and freed by Poinsett; an account of the separation of Louisiana territory from the Spanish, etc. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy scuffing and uneven fading to the covers, heavy to the spine. A few small areas of staining and discoloration. Owner's signature present. Doodle on the second blank endpaper. Tick marks in the contents pages, with a few sentences underlined in several sections of the book. Scattered foxing throughout. Good .
